Whoa… Seniors “if you rest you rust” – Surprising Benefits of Exercise at Any Age!

Prevent Disease:
According to the National Institute of Aging exercise may prevent diseases common with aging. Those diseases include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, depression and dementia. Exercise also reduces the rate of hospitalization.

Boost Brain Power:
Physical activity is linked with a slower mental decline. Exercise increases blood flow throughout the body that includes the brain and there is evidence that it may promote cell growth there. According to the Seniorjournal.com exercise is beneficial in preventing dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Improve healing
Healing takes place more slowly with age. It has been found that those who exercise regularly i.e. increasing blood flow may speed up wound healing as much as 25% reported by Senior Journal.

Improve balance
Falling is the enemy of the aging process. Exercise can improve strength and flexibility to help prevent falls. Broken bones often lead to lack of independence. Walking briskly or riding a bike is great for maintaining strength and increasing cardio activity.

Improve quality of life & life expectancy
Research supports regular exercise can improve mood and help avoid depression due to increase of endorphin’s. Both physical and mental function benefit and life expectancy can be extended .The recommendation for physical activity is 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week and consistency is more important than intensity!
